Idemitsu Unitech has been participating in the “Eye City Eco Project” to recycle empty cases of disposable contact lenses since 2018. All disposable contact lens cases, regardless of the manufacturer, are made of polypropylene and are suitable for recycling. Recycling is expected to contribute in CO₂ emissions reduction, and the collected cases will be used as materials for various products (shirts, color pens, fans, etc. ). In addition, the sale of those products will be used to support visually disabled people. Currently, the recycling rate of empty contact lens cases is still very low, less than 1% of the total. Idemitsu Unitech will spread this project to all factories and sales offices to gain further cooperation.
