The symposium was held on July 22, sponsored by the Securities Analysts Association of Japan. Under the title “Idemitsu Group – Harmony with Environment and Society,” our Corporate Sustainability Department Head presented Idemitsu’s initiatives such as reducing the environmental impact from the coal business mainly through varied renewable energy options and black pellets. His presentation was well received by participating analysts.
We conducted a workshop to instill the principals of the SDGs in our employees through hands-on experience rather than conventional lectures. A total of 45 employees from Idemitsu Kosan and Showa Shell Sekiyu Group participated in the workshop, which was led by Mr. Tomohiro Izawa of Association for the Promotion of the Junior United Nations Eco-Workshop (JUNEC). In the first half of the workshop, participants played an SDGs-themed card game and were able to experience the various stages on the road to creating a sustainable society. In the second half of the workshop, the Lego® Serious Play® method was used to allow participants to effectively express their ideas and to reflect on their experiences after playing the game. This enabled the participants to deepen their understanding of issues that they should consider as company employees, as department members and as individuals towards realizing a sustainable society.
On April 3, Idemitsu Kosan held SDGs Workshop as part of its training programs for new employees, and a total of 181 new employees of Idemitsu Kosan and Showa Shell Sekiyu participated in the workshop. The workshop, which consisted of two parts, was held to encourage the new employees to understand SDGs from various angles, look at them from a broader perspective, and think about them by integrating diverse opinions – important points in SDGs – as well as acquire a wider range of knowledge as working adults. Working together with Imaco Collabo Institute, the first half of the program allowed participants to experience a roadmap leading to the sustainable society through card games. The purpose is to make them understand that they are connected to the world and that they could become a starter of change in the society.
In the second half, entitled “Select Your Restaurant”, each team selected restaurants by taking diverse opinions into account. Participants did not only share the discussion results but also what they noticed during the discussion process by looking at things from various angles and experienced the importance of developing ideas from a broader point of view.
